Entrepreneurs residing in city-owned premises have until the end of May to apply for a discount on the rent

Entrepreneurs who rent commercial premises from the City of Prague may apply for a discount on the rent by filling in an online application form which is available on Prague’s Real Estate Portal website. By this offer, Prague aims to help entrepreneurs tackle the challenges associated with the covid-19 pandemic.

“We are fully aware of the crisis caused by covid-19, which has serious economic consequences for tenants in city-owned commercial premises. That is why are are constantly looking for ways to alleviate the situation for them. Prague City Council therefore decided to offer a rent discount of 30% for another period,” says City Councilor Jan Chabr who is responsible for the municipal asset management agenda.

Prague City Council decided on the support for entrepreneurs at its session at the end of March, offering a 30% discount on the monthly rent that was already paid in Q3 and Q4 2020. The discount applies to tenants in commercial non-residential premises whose business activity has been significantly limited due to the pandemic.

Applications can be filed only online via the Prague Real Estate Portal by 31 May 2021. The applications will be handled by the City Hall’s Asset Management Department, as was the case last year. “The discount will be provided in the form of an amendment to existing lease contracts. A discount of 30 percent calculated from the monthly rent that was paid for the third and fourth quarter of last year will be deducted from the rent for the coming months. We have arranged the entire process so as to be able to assess and approve applications with speed to maximize the effectiveness of the aid and to minimize the administrative burden for the tenants,” adds Jan Rak, director of the City Hall’s Asset Management Department.
