The contract for the reconstruction of the burnt down St. Michael the Archangel Church is ready

2/20/2024

Prague city councillors have approved the plan for a public contract for the restoration of the Church of St Michael the Archangel in the Kinsky Garden in Prague 5. The wooden church, originally imported from what is now Ukraine, burned down in October 2020. Its restoration is necessary to preserve its cultural heritage and enable its liturgical enjoyment. The anticipated start date for the procurement process is March 2024. Once a contractor is selected, construction work will take 12 months.
The estimated value of the contract is CZK 44,633,978.50 including VAT. People also helped to finance the restoration of the church through a public collection announced by the capital in October 2020, thanks to which CZK 1,904,500 was raised. The City of Prague would like to thank everyone who contributed to the collection.

During the construction work, the original building design will be respected and replicated, due to the fact that this is a scientific reconstruction of the exhibit of the Open Air Museum of Ethnography, which is an immovable cultural monument. Upon completion of the implementation, the building will be handed over to the Museum of the City of Prag
